Rev. Jesse Jackson
In the wake of two recent high profile racist incidents Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke with DuPage County leaders yesterday about ways to fight racism. The civil rights leader commended those in attendance at Unity Partnership’s Leadership Forum, which was held in Cantigny Park’s Golf Clubhouse, as he said they took the first step in learning from the incidents. Jackson also said that racism is a belief system and to change that kids need to learn that racism is not ok in and out of school.
Hate Has No Home Here Rally
Dozens braved the cold and rain for a “Hate Has No Home Here” rally in response to recent incidents of racism in Naperville. One of the keynote speakers was Marcus Riley, one of the victims of discrimination at the Naperville Buffalo Wild Wings on October 26. The event’s theme was “Where Do We Go From Here?” and several local leaders spoke on that topic. If you’d like to view the full rally, you can watch on the NCTV17 Facebook page.
Parking Restrictions Suspended
The City of Naperville is lifting overnight street parking restrictions to accommodate out-of-town guests for Thanksgiving weekend. Street parking will be allowed overnight on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but regular enforcement will return on Monday at 2 a.m.
Rutter Named Award Semifinalist
Congratulations to North Central College senior quarterback and Neuqua Valley grad Broc Rutter on being named a Gagliardi Award semifinalist. It’s the second year in a row that Rutter been selected as one of 12 semifinalists for the top player in Division III college football. The Cardinal QB holds all the major passing records at NCC and currently has more career passing yards than any active college quarterback at any level with over 13,000. Fan voting is open until December 9 on D3football.com. North Central will take on the number one team in the country, Mt. Union on Saturday in the second round of the D-III playoffs.
