It was an impressive display of creativity at the Naperville Park District’s first-ever senior art showcase.
Watercolors, sketches, woodcarving and other works of art filled the community hall at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, all made by local seniors.
“You see something you’d like to draw or paint and what can I say?” said Lois Behr, whose paintings and drawings were on display. “It’s just viewing something that appeals to you and you want to get it down on paper.”
Visitors were able to speak with the artists and ask questions about their inspiration for different pieces.
Even more impressive at the senior art showcase was that some of the artists didn’t even begin their artistic journey until recently.
“I started when I retired from my job,” said Rita Ocenasek, who started painting in 2015. “I was looking for something to keep myself busy so I saw this advertised in the catalog for the park district of Naperville, and I started doing little things from time to time.”
A separate room also demonstrated how many of the park district art classes work for anyone who is interested in signing up.
An outlet for creativity to bloom.
