New Businesses
Two new businesses are bringing their headquarters to Naperville. The Naperville Development Partnership announced Premium PapaNicholas Coffee and Fluid Air Inc. will soon call Naperville home. PapaNicholas distributes more than 5 million pounds of coffee each year and Fluid Air works in solid dosage processing.
D204 Budget update
At last night’s District 204 Board meeting, district officials updated the board on the tentative 2020 budget. Chief School Business Official Jay Strang said the district will receive $970,118 from evidence-based funding, which is an increase from last year. Strang also noted there was an increase from local sources and said the district generated almost $3.5 million in taxes from new property last year. Staff salaries and benefits increased due to additional staff and escalating healthcare costs. The board will hold a hearing for final approval of the budget on September 23.
Naperville Named Safe College Town
Home security company SafeWise recently released a list of the safest college towns in the country and Naperville made the cut. By focusing on the ratio of violent crimes based on population, Naperville, home of North Central College came in ranked 22nd.
Canine Deputy
And there’s a new deputy helping keep our area high in those safety rankings. Nitro is an explosive-sniffing German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix who recently joined Deputy Frank Carragher of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. Nitro joins three other dogs in the K-9 unit, with plans to double the ranks to eight dogs in the coming months.
