Naperville’s New Park District Podcast

The Naperville Park District has launched a new initiative to stay in touch with residents – a park district podcast.

The podcast, called ParkTalk, is available through Sound Cloud and the park district website.

“I think audio is a great medium,” said Sue Omanson, the Naperville Park District’s community development manager. “It’s becoming more popular. It’s something you can do while you’re doing something else, you know, riding in the car or doing chores around the house. And they’ll get to hear the voice of their leaders, and I think that’s a very personal kind of communication.”

The podcast’s first seven-part series will cover the State of the Park District.

In previous years the State of the Park District has been delivered in front of a live audience.

“People are busier and busier,” said Sameera Luthman, Naperville Park District director of marketing and communications. “Not everyone wants to get up on a Saturday in the winter in the morning and trudge over to our State of the Park District presentation. And the park district has a lot to communicate whether it’s where people’s taxes go, programs that we have, background on our commissioners. These are all things that people will hear in the ParkTalk Podcast.”

The first episode is now available online.

Future podcast topics will include interviews with staff and commissioners and new park district events.
