Senior night a Neuqua Valley as the Wildcats grass field finally had a little time to dry out as NV hosts Naperville North. Both teams still undefeated in conference play heading into the match.
First Half
Early in the first half, Emily Dulik gets the ball head to the Huskies top scorer Hannah Martin, the junior unleashes a shot that grazes the crossbar and heads out of play.
15 minutes in, Reaghan Young turns along the end line and centers a pass that makes it all the way through to Danielle Hopkins, the seniors connect for the opening goal of the game as the Wildcats strike first.
A few minutes later and Kaitlyn Castillo chips the ball ahead to Martin, her shot is on line but Tara Tesmond punches it out of play to keep NV up 1-0.
Under 20 to go in the first half, a scramble for the ball as Hannah Martin ends up with it, a sliding shot later and we have a tie ball game as the Huskie forward finds the net.
Just over ten to play in the first half, Paige Sylvester with a well played ball ahead to Martin, another sliding shot slips under the arms of Tara Tesmond into the goal as Naperville North takes a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Second Half
Into the 2nd half and Reaghan Young plays a give and go with Alison Dovalovsky, Young makes a move but Amanda Johnson is there for the save to preserve the one goal advantage.
Time winding down under 4 minutes to play, Piper Biziorek with a perfectly placed pass to Reaghan Young for the equalizer! Not a bad time for Young’s first goal of the season as we are knotted up at two apiece.
Naperville North with a chance to retake the lead in regulation, Emily Dulik pops a shot into the air, Hannah Martin going for the hat trick with the header, but Tara Tesmond gets just enough to deflect the ball out of play. We will head to overtime.
After a scoreless first OT, Biziorek with another chance for the Wildcats, her centering pass is knocked away by the Huskie defense and Amanda Johnson pounces on the ball to preserve the tie. A hard fought battle between the sectional’s top two seeds ends at 2-2.
