Illinois Schools Seek Reimbursement for Election Costs

Illinois schools want reimbursement for costs they pay during elections.

The Illinois Association of School Boards recently voted to adopt a resolution to seek sponsorship of a bill that would allow a school district to seek reimbursement from election commissions for costs incurred when a school is used as a polling place.

The resolution was proposed by District 204, whose officials say they spend approximately $10,000 every election for security when students are present.

State law prevents districts from refusing the use of their schools as polling places.
