DuPage Prescription Collection Efforts:
DuPage County is making it even easier to turn in unwanted or expired prescriptions. Their sheriff’s department is launching a new pick-up program to collect medications from homes in unincorporated areas of DuPage. That’s for those residents who may be physically unable to make it to a standard drop-off. They’ll also be handing out free drug deactivation bags at their headquarters in Wheaton. Once the drug is put in the bag and combined with water, the medication is neutralized and can be safely disposed. It’s all part of the Heroin/Opioid Prevention and Education Taskforce program to reduce access to drugs and dispose of them safely. There’s also a local effort to dispose of medication this Saturday, at the Naperville Police Department. Officers will be stationed at the circle drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect old prescriptions as part of the DEA National Take Back Initiative.
Alternatives to College Presentation:
Tonight the Alive Center is teaming up with Dealer Inspire to present teens with an alternative option to college. Their “What’s Next? Your Pathway to Purpose” program will present information about choices like trade schools, technical schools or becoming an entrepreneur. Attendees will hear from a panel featuring guests like Naperville Chamber of Commerce CEO Nicki Anderson and entrepreneur Matt Baker, along with keynote speaker Joe Chura, the co-founder of Dealer Inspire. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be held at the Alive Center at 500 W. 5th Avenue.
Flashlight Egg Hunt:
Easter may be over, but the hunt was still on last night for eggs hidden at the Naperville Park District’s annual Flashlight Egg Hunt. The event in Knoch Knolls Park had been scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed due to weather conditions. That wasn’t a problem yesterday when over 100 kids with flashlights in hand went searching for the more than 2,000 eggs scattered throughout the park. Up to 20 eggs were allowed to be collected per child, and were then turned in for prizes.
North Central Runner Achievement:
Congratulations to North Central College distance runner Dhruvil Patel on another outstanding achievement. After winning the Cross Country national championship this fall and the indoor track National Championship in the 5000 meters last month, Patel broke the Division III all time record in the 5000 at the Stanford University Cardinal Classic with a time of 13 minutes, 51 seconds. The NCC senior finished in 12th place in the race that was filled with mostly Division I competitors.
