2017 Holiday Movie Preview

As winter approaches so too does the holiday movie season.

Now exploding into theaters near you, Batman and Wonder Woman team up in “Justice League” to fight a new enemy.

“So the question is will they save the world? Is there a chance Superman might return? And is Wonder Woman going to hold her own against these other male superheroes? I think Gal Gadot will definitely do that,” said Mark Mazrimas, marketing manager for Classic Cinemas.

Also out now: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

“This is an Oscar contender,” Mazrimas said. “And it has to do with a mother whose daughter was murdered and felt that the town sheriff was doing nothing to solve the crime, so she takes out three billboards telling everybody that.”

Coming out in December, Rey and Finn are back on the big screen along with Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

“Now we’re going to find they’re going to team together, and they are going to discover some secrets to the Jedis and to the Force and some things that have happened in the past,” Mazrimas explained. “No brain surgery here, Star Wars is going to be the number one picture of the holiday season.”

And for the kids, Fox brings us John Cena as Ferdinand, the gentle bull from the 1938 children’s book.

“And he gets mistaken for a ferocious bull and is taken down to fight a matador,” said Mazrimas.

If you enjoy a good musical, get ready for Hugh Jackman in “The Greatest Showman.”

“He’s been wanting to bring us the story of P.T. Barnum and the original circus that he founded in the 19th Century.”

“Downsizing” is a unique science fiction film starring Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig.

“In this one scientists have discovered a way of miniaturizing us to five inches tall,” Mazrimas explains.

And on December 22 Sony Pictures brings us “All The Money in the World” about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.

Originally Kevin Spacey was cast to play the part of the billionaire grandfather, but after mounting allegations of sexual harassment the part was recast.

“Delete, delete,” said Mazrimas. “They have to reshoot all the sequences with Christopher Plummer now so we’ll see if Ridley Scott can pull this off under this tight schedule.”

Other big name movies this holiday season include “Coco”, “Jumanji 2,” and “The Shape of Water.”

If you’re looking for an affordable family friendly holiday movie, you can’t beat free. The Ogden 6 will be showing “Elf” starring Will Ferrell on December 9 at 10 a.m. Santa will also be in the lobby to greet kids who arrive to the movie early.
