Naperville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

Summer is almost here and that means the Naperville Public Library will be kicking off their Summer Reading Program.

When Is the Summer Reading Program

From June 1 through August 15, community members of all ages can participate. But kids in particular can benefit from the summer reading.

“When kids don’t read regularly throughout the summer they can lose a lot of the knowledge they’ve gained throughout the school year,” said Children’s Learning Supervisor Ellen Fitzgerald. “They can actually lose up to two months of knowledge over the summer.”

What Prizes Can Participants Win?

Participants can reach their personalized goals by reading or listening to a book. Doing so enters them into a raffle to win prizes like gift cards and free books.

They can also earn points by attending summer programs – and there’s plenty of programs where kids spread their wings.

“We have caterpillars that are turning into butterflies, so kids can come in – it’s something to discover. Every time you come in we try to have new and exciting things happening to make those ‘wow’ moments because we want everyone who walks in to have a positive library experience,” said Fitzgerald.

The library hopes the summer program will inspire kids to read through the summer and beyond.

“I’ll take a phrase from Dr. Seuss, ‘The more you read the more you know, the more you know the more places you’ll go’,” said Fitzgerald.
