Opening round of the Hoops for Healing tournament at Naperville North has the huskies facing off against Hinsdale Central. This game opens up both North and Hindale’s seasons.
First Half
After six minutes of no score.. Hinsdale Central leads 2-0. That is until Peter Krebs all alone makes the three pointer. Low scoring first quarter with the huskies up 5-2 after 1.
North up 10-6 in the second quarter, Grant Johnson finds Riley Thompson with enough space to land the triple. Huskies up 13-6.
Just a little while later, Hinsdale Central’s Nic St. John sees his opportunity, intercepting the pass and takes it all the way for the lay up. Red Devils trail 13-12 at half time.
Second Half
Opening up the third quarter, Red Devils come out firing. Connor Nelson all alone sinks the three ball. Hinsdale takes the lead 15-13.
North keeping pass though. Grant Johnson uses his body to get down low and land the lay in. Johnson with 8 points in the game as the huskies lead 20-15.
Things really start to pick up at the end of the third quarter. Hinsdale Central with good defense gathers the loose ball, Lucas Schiavitti to Quinn Cain for the lay up. It’s no good but but eventually Schiavitti gets the put back to tie the game at 22s.
In the the fourth quarter and the huskies almost lose the ball again but Zeke Williams gathers it and finds Michael Imhoff who sinks the three pointer. North leads 25-22.
Back and fourth battle in the final stanza. Hinsdale Central moving quick, finds Quinn Cain all alone and he ties the game up again at 27.
But north would retake the lead just a little while later. Quick passing leads to Riley Thompson grabbing the three. Huskies up 30-29.
More good defense late in the fourth quarter. Zeke Williams grabbing the pass and moving down court quickly, he fires the pass over to Thompson, his attempt doesn’t go but Imhoff gets the put back. Huskies extending their lead 34-29.
Hinsdale’s last chance off the free throw rebound, moving down court quickly but the Red Devils loose control of the ball and then North would ice the game at the free throw line, winning a close one 36-31.
